Buying Pre-vulcanized Butyl Lining Sheets: Confirm What Is Being Supplied
Buy pre-vulcanized butyl lining sheets with a clear polymer identity, sheet description, bonding package and delivery records. Distinguish IIR, BIIR and CIIR.

Buy pre-vulcanized butyl rubber lining sheets against a named product and a written supply description. “Pre-vulcanized butyl” identifies neither every polymer variant nor the complete installation package. Before comparing sheet prices, make the material identity, construction and included components unambiguous.
Check the polymer before the price
Ask whether the proposed base is ordinary butyl rubber (IIR), bromobutyl (BIIR) or chlorobutyl (CIIR). Record the manufacturer's compound designation as well as the polymer family. These descriptions must not be treated as automatic substitutions.
Steuler identifies KERABUTYL BBS V as a pre-vulcanized BIIR product. That is an example of specific identification, not evidence that an unnamed IIR or CIIR sheet has the same properties. Blair also presents separate chlorobutyl and bromobutyl categories. Request documentation for the actual offered sheet.
Turn the quotation into a sheet description
Ask the seller to state the proposed thickness, usable dimensions, construction and bonding-side preparation. Identify which face meets the process medium and which is bonded, using the manufacturer's drawing or instructions rather than an informal assumption.
Clarify the quantity basis: rolls, pieces or area. Request the seller's allowances for cutting and detail work, and identify any buyer-specified dimensions. If supplied sizes differ from the enquiry, resolve the effect on quantity and installation planning before accepting the offer.
Specify the package around the sheet
State whether the order includes only rubber or also a compatible bonding package. Ask the supplier to list each included item with its product reference and applicable instructions. Do not quietly replace a named component with an available general-purpose product.
Separate the sheet's pre-vulcanized state from requirements for the completed bonded lining. Request the chosen system's installation and release-to-service instructions. A statement about another supplier's product should not determine your project's commissioning decision.
Agree the delivery checks
Give the buyer's receiving team a practical document list.
- Product and batch identification linked to the order.
- Quantities, sizes and any agreed dimensional tolerances.
- Current handling and storage instructions for supplied components.
- A procedure for reporting damage, discrepancies or substitutions.
Ask for the applicable storage period rather than assuming one duration covers both sheets and bonding products. Where delivery is staged, agree how batches will remain identifiable and how later deliveries will be reconciled with the approved package.
Avoid false equivalents and finish the enquiry
Colour, a generic product name or a loose sample does not establish polymer identity. Nor does the word pre-vulcanized mean that primers, adhesives and commissioning conditions can be ignored.
Request one offer naming the sheet, polymer base and complete supply boundary. Our pre-vulcanized butyl lining overview helps frame the enquiry.

FAQ
Are IIR, BIIR and CIIR interchangeable purchase descriptions?
No. Ask for the polymer base and exact compound. Any proposed substitution needs its own technical review for the project.
Does pre-vulcanized mean the installed lining can enter service immediately?
Do not assume so. Obtain the installation and release-to-service requirements for the complete proposed sheet and bonding system.
Should sheets and bonding materials share one assumed storage period?
No. Request applicable storage instructions and periods for the actual supplied components, and check their identification at receipt.
