What should you send an EPDM sheet supplier for cut parts?

Request cut EPDM parts with a clear drawing revision, finished dimensions and delivery list. Avoid confusing roll supply, rough blanks and finished components.

For cut-to-size EPDM parts, send a controlled drawing or dimensioned sketch, the material requirement, quantity and intended delivery form. Make clear whether the supplier is quoting sheet stock, rough blanks or finished parts. This guide concerns the purchasing handover; it does not promise any supplier's cutting capability or tolerance.

Choose the delivery form before asking for a price

A roll of sheet, a rectangular blank and a finished gasket are different deliverables. State what you want to receive and which cutting work remains with your own workshop. If nested parts or mixed shapes are involved, list each part separately rather than treating the order only as a total sheet area.

Ask the supplier to confirm the material grade against the application and provide its current technical data sheet. The EPDM name alone does not establish the suitability of a proposed compound.

Give each drawing a clear identity

Put the part name, drawing identifier and revision on the enquiry. State the dimension unit and required quantity for each part. When replacing a file, explain which version is withdrawn and request acknowledgement of the version used for the quotation.

If a sketch and a digital drawing differ, resolve the conflict before ordering. Do not expect the workshop to decide which missing dimension or conflicting outline represents your intention.

Distinguish finished dimensions from blank dimensions

Mark whether dimensions refer to the finished part or a blank with further work remaining. Identify holes, internal cut-outs and surfaces that matter to the fit. Ask the supplier to confirm achievable dimensional requirements and the agreed inspection approach.

A scanned picture should not be treated as a controlled scale drawing unless that basis has been agreed. If only a physical sample exists, record which sample is the reference and who will approve the resulting drawing.

Separate material and geometry approval

Record the agreed compound and supply state separately from the shape. A part that matches the outline is not automatically the correct material. Conversely, an approved material sample does not confirm every dimension of a production part.

If a trial part is needed, agree what it is intended to verify and whether a later drawing change requires another check. Do not describe a sample review as certification or proof of service life.

Make delivery easy to reconcile

Ask for part identifiers and quantities to appear on the packing list. Agree how mixed items will be separated and which identification remains with each package. Keep the acknowledged drawing revision with the purchase order so receiving staff can compare the delivered items with the agreed requirement.

Before accepting a commercial offer, clarify minimum quantities, setup or cutting charges, packaging, transport, lead time and exclusions. Distinguish buyer-required conditions from capabilities the supplier has actually confirmed.

Send a concise handover note

A useful enquiry line contains: part name; drawing and revision; material requirement; thickness; dimension unit; quantity; finished part or blank; delivery destination; and open questions. Mark unconfirmed items explicitly.

Send your EPDM sheet enquiry and drawing. Material availability, cutting feasibility, tolerances and the final offer require review and confirmation. The archive cutting photograph does not verify a particular EPDM grade or manufacturing tolerance.

FAQ

Is a roll quotation equivalent to a finished gasket quotation?

No. Identify the delivery form and which party performs the remaining cutting work, then compare the same scope.

Can a photograph replace a dimensioned drawing?

It can help explain the part, but dimensions, scale assumptions and the approved reference must be agreed. Do not assume the photograph is a controlled drawing.

What if I change the drawing after receiving a quote?

Send the new revision, identify the superseded file and ask the supplier to confirm any effect on feasibility, price, timing and approval.
